We are looking at installing under cabinet lighting, and I cannot decide between 12 seperate LED pucks (2W each, 3000K) or should I get a reel of LED lights (16 feet, 2.5W/ft, 3000K)?
Are the pucks more reliable?

The strip would be my choice. It's a simpler installation and provides even illumination along the whole length. It's also much brighter.

Like he said...I would use the tape. I stock 3528 and 5050 led tape in warm white, cool white, rgb, blue and red for kitchens, built in cabinets and decks. The light is much more even and you don't need much of a valance to hide the strips...I use 5/8" toe kick ripped in half for my valances and it looks great.

As long as you buy a decent quality LED fixture, the reliability factor wouldn't be an issue. As far as the light each casts, I agree with the others. a strip would give you a more even light cast.
