Hi,
I had a leaking Tap where it screwed onto the pipe... no matter what i did i could not get it to stop dripping. Out of desperation I put some silicone sealant around the tread of the tap before i screwed it on... I know this wasn't the best solution but I was desperate. I turned the water on for a minuet then thought this wasn't a good solution. I removed the tap and got out all the silicone sealant, I have run water through all the pipes but I am worried some silicone sealant might have got into the water pipes and contaminated then.... the tap is in the laundry so we do not use it for drinking water... as I said I have run all cold water tapes for a few minuets to try and flush anything out.... Not sure what else to do.

Unless you shut off the main water supply and drained the system there's no way the water in the pipes is going to run backwards.

Once the main water supply's shut off most can be rebuilt with new parts.

just use some teflon tape and pipe dope on the threads and good togo, I wouldnt worry about the silicone, its not water soluble so is any got into the system it will just harden up and not cause any health harm...
