I live in an older home and do not intend to stay long but would like to overlay self stick tiles over sheet vinyl. The self stick is slate patterned and 3/32" thick, dark slate finish. Will the lines from the under vinyl floor show through? Should I remove the vinyl and then lay the self stick.

One of the last forms of flooring anyone here would have suggest to use.
Even a cheap laminite would be better then that.

Was just hoping the thickness of the tile and the color would camouflage.
it just might, depends on how picky you are. i was happy with what i had. until i got the remodeling bug and became more picky. i then did a nice engineered wood.

and if i had removed the sheet, then did the tiles. the end result would not have been as good.

while joe is correct. peel & stick tiles do have their place. and are often better than the same priced alternatives.

Thanks for the self stick tile input

I know self stick tiles are not the best choice but in an old house that will probably be demolished, I'm just looking for a quick fix for about 3 years. If this were my permanent residence, I'd definitely get something professionally installed and go with a wood floor. I dislike laminate flooring because it's so noisy and cheap looking even with a cushion. Nothing like solid hard wood.

Thanks again everyone.
