I'm going to be installing laminate which will require a nosing at the top of the basement stairs. I have the laminate but the nosing is on order (2 weeks for delivery of the nosing). The stair is opposite the longest wall in the room. Can I start at the longest wall, work towards the stair and then install the nosing once it is delivered or is this asking for trouble?

does this nosing click into the laminate like the other laminate pieces do? if it does you will have to start at the stairs otherwise you might end up with a partial piece that the nosing will not click onto. if its a regular transition piece then it wouldn't matter but they usually have those in stock everywhere.

Laminite on a second story and trying to use that funky stair nosing they sell is not the greatest of ideas.
Reasons being, that nosing there going to sell you is nothing but a vinyl peel and stick coating over a piece partical board or a hard foam like material.
It you look at it from the end there's several 90 deg. angles that will crack over time.

Laminite will do nothing to increase the value of a home.

Don't know what the nosing looks like - my son ordered it for his house. If it clicks into the flooring I was thinking of cutting that piece off on the table saw and the same on the flooring piece. Would that work?

Any I have worked with, work the same as a transition strip.
The flooring needs to be able to move under it.

Forms a nice trip hazzard right at the top of the stairs.
