I am installing laminate flooring on my whole 2nd floor
I guess a vapor barrier is not required, right?

No, but if there's no built in padding on the back side of the flooring your going to have to lay that first.
Might want to read the box or go on line and read the manufactures install directions.

Yes, there is a padding
And I am planing to put 1st a layer of Homasote 440 for sound insulation

I was also thinking to put that 1st (between plywood and Homasaote) but they told me it won't be very helpful since there is no air in-between

Before going foward on this figure out how your going to trim out where it meets the stairway. Last thing you want is a trip hazzard.

Yes, there will be somehow a transition with the stair
I will redo the stairs with oak, not laminate
I think I can manage to have the last stair perfectly at the same level of the laminate..and for the transition strip, I will have to find a thin one.
Don't see what I can do else...
