I need to build a retaining wall along the bank of a small lake to stop erosion and to reclaim some land. I have a bunch of telephone polls, and was wondering if I could use "T" post to hold them up. We are only going up about 4 feet. But the first row will be in water so I can not dig holes to set posts. Any thoughts?

Polls don't make good retaining walls but poles would work.

Seriously, find out about permits. Cresote or some types pressure treated poles usually are not allowed in lakes or ponds

Hi Hoto, your location and local rules will be important. Anything near water or wetlands here in Maine, be it a stream, marsh, lake, or ocean can face serious permitting requirements and huge penalties if rules are not followed. In a recent article restoring the land costs went into the hundreds of thousands.

I have a camp lot and the related environmental agency has areal photos of every foot around my lake. Any manmade changes and they can spot them easily, and they do.
