Recently, the hot water in the shower in our master bath has been getting colder and colder. After verifying the water heater elements are still working fine, I compared hot water temperatures at various locations in the house. The hot water temperature at every fixture is very close, except for this shower. The shower was almost 10 degrees cooler than the sink 5' away from it. I'm assuming that points to the shower cartridge, correct?

The second part of my question is about the cartridge itself. I figured out how to remove it, but can't identify it based on the numbers stamped on it. It says HL-40 on it, but the google results don't give me a picture of one exactly like mine, where the handle attaches is different. The faucet itself is made by Cleveland Faucet Group, but I don't have a model number or any documentation. I'm pretty sure it's not the original cartridge; I think it was replaced the first week or two we were in the house because there was no hot water at all in that shower. I've never heard of the, "Cleveland Faucet Group". Check online for a company website and try contacting them for parts or local venders.

Is that something that Lowe's might have? I couldn't find anything similar on their website. Then again, their website is horrible.

The faucet trim said "CFG" on it. So I googled that and got their website. Apparently they are a part of Moen. They have some parts sheets and installation instructions on their site, but only for current products.

There should be a model number on the cartridge. If it's Moen related, your local plumbing supply would be the place to go. You might get lucky at a big box store.

The reason it is cooler is the built in anti scald and temperature stop in the tub or shower valve. You need to adjust that.

Temp should be set at a max of 110 through 120 degrees F

The ring is already set to the maximum. Besides, this temperature drop has only been going on for a couple months. The temperature had been fine for 5 years prior to that.

Update: I didn't use that shower after re-installing everything yesterday, but I did this morning. The temperature is back to normal. Any ideas why that would happen?

Perhaps you dislodged a speck of debris that was blocking a port?

Maybe the issue is in the aqustat in the hot water heater, not the cartridge.
