I used the shut-off valves under the kitchen sink to turn off the water while installing a new dishwasher. I've now connected everything and re-opend the shut off valves, but am not getting any or much water flow. The main valve to our house is still open and water flows in the bathroom faucets. What's up?

Thanks Bill & Andrew. The valves are about 20 years old and haven't been closed/operated much in that time. The handles turn freely but seem to have some resistance, as if connected to something, but then litte flow is coming through. Since both are dogin the same thing, hopefully the blockage is at the aerator as noted.

I'll check the aerator for blockage. If not the aerator, could the valve itself be clogged by the same crud, and if so, can it be cleared, or would it need to be replaced. Thanks again.
