Moving along in the kitchen remodel. As usually discovering questions along the way. I'd planned a remodel next year but a small water loss from the dishwasher moved that forward.

An local cabinet contractor has designed and ordered new cabinets. They'll be handling install but I'm handling the demo. They didn't mention anything about install blocking for the new cabs. I'd like a 2nd (unbias) opinion.

Should I be tearing out all the existing drywall and installing new blocking? During the demo I discovered the old cabinets were essentially built in place. They weren't a solid box but used upper and lower strips that were notched around for the frame. You could see the back wall through the cabinets.

The new layout will essentially be the same. But I doubt there's any horizontal blocking behind the walls.

On the other hand if you have a jumble of smaller boxes, it may be beneficial to run nailers across your studs (2x8 or so) just to keep installers from failing to grab a stud firmly. You can determine from the drawings where to place the nailers.
