Hello all.

I am having an issue only on my kitchen ceiling and it seems to be spreading. It looks like cracking of the paint and you can kind of press on the paint like it's separating from the ceiling itself not sure how to explain. Below are photos as an example. What would be the best way to fix it any help would be greatly appreciated.

edit: unable to post link to photos at the moment

Welcome--You need three posts in order to post a picture--

How old is the house?
Has the ceiling been repainted? Sounds like the last paint job has lost its grip.

With no pictures we can make some guesses and ask some questions.
Was this new drywall?
A few things that can cause this if it's new drywall someone did not clean off the drywall compound dust.
No primmer.
Someone tried painting painting over glossy paint without sanding it first.
Latex over old oil based paint.
Damaged drywall from water damage.
Someone painted over a greasy dirty ceiling.

House was built in the 50s. I tried scraping off the place where it was cracking and thick pieces of paint are just flying off the ceiling. Someone I spoke to said maybe it was painted over way too many times by previous owner(s).

ZTMAN nailed it. Poor patch job. And, perhaps there is still an active leak or at least SOME moisture underneath that patch which is causing it to separate from the substrate whether it be plaster or drywall. Rolling paint has a suction effect and also pushing on the roller with some force is causing those patched areas to come loose.

See if there is still an active leak by checking the bathroom or attic above. If no leaks, you will need to remove those bad patch jobs and re-do them.

Thanks a lot everyone will definitely attempt to redo it. Upstairs is just a room no bathroom or anything that would have a leak hmmm. Thinking maybe as someone mentioned to me maybe they painted over greasy ceiling poor job prior. Will see what I can do thanks again appreciate it.
