WELCOME TO THE FORUM
If I worked in Home Depot kitchen cabinet department I might be able to tell you what is sold the most. But since I do custom work, I get calls from light to dark woodgrains in different species, gloss lacquer in light to dark, and plastic laminate in solids and patterns. I can't really say there is a "trend".
I will say that there seems to be more of a demand in the light finishes, including whitewash woodgrains.
