Hey all, just wondering if anyone came across this before. I have used some kitchen cabinets in my home theater to build a wall office. I have plenty of space, however......I still have file cabinets sitting out. I was wondering if anyone has ever turned a kitchen door base cabinet into a file cabinet. I know they make the kits to add trash cans and things like that, but I can't seem to find anything on this.

Any help would mean alot!

Building drawer boxes for Pendaflex hangers would be simple wood working--you will want to install full suspension drawer guides to handle the weight. doors could be attached to the drawer boxes--

Is this a cabinet you have and want to convert or do you want to order one? As Mike said, making a drawer and installing guides is pretty easy. Ordering is easier, albiet more expensive.
Standard file drawer depths are usually deeper then standard kitchen drawers, but many cabinet companies make a file drawer cabinet(if memory serves).

Yeah, the cabinets are already in place.

I have an 18" W x 24" D x 24" H cabinet that I want to designate as a file cabinet. I would like to put two sets of glides in the cabinet, and attach the door to the face of the bottom glide and then have the option of sliding out the top file once its open.

I would have ordered one that was set up for this, however I was looking at about 450 for that one single cabinet. I figured for a third of the price.......I could figure something out.

At 18" wide, you should be able to fit a standard size file folder in there.

So does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can find the guts and inner workings of a file cabinet in order to construct this? Or would I be better off finding an older wooden file cabinet and stripping them out of there?

Look at wood craft for hardware--you are going to have to build that to fit--a standard file cabinet is to deep to cannibalize for your needs.

Any office supply store will carry file folder hangers. Basically it's 2 parallel rods. You can buy the vertical supports or just drill holes in the backs and fronts of the drawer and put them in.
Go to Staples and open a file cabinet and take measurements.
