I have done quite a bit of hunting online to purchase a product. After a long search, I still haven't found what I'd like to have.

I'm looking for a desktop sized air filtration fan.
My desktop has a computer and monitor, and I think the electronics are causing static that attracts a very heavy amount of dust.

Features I desire:

Filters are completely WASHABLE and permanent. Some models claim the filter is washable, but that is false, you have to use a vacuum cleaner on it.

Quiet fan. This will be on my workdesk.

Won't cause harm to electronics such as computer / monitor.

Possibly Air Ionizer feature, but I read that many models produce toxic ozone, and a bad smell.

Price $50 or under.

Made in America would be nice.......is ANYTHING still made in America that isn't junk?

Warranty that does not require me to pay return shipping if this is a dud.
I happen to have Amazon Prime, with free shipping, but the selection doesn't meet my needs.

So far, models that come somewhat near to this have many drawbacks.
Price $100 to $200, reviews say noisy, too bulky, and of course the worst part, you have to keep buying disposable filters.

I am aware of the DIY idea of just strapping a filter onto an existing fan.
I'm looking to avoid having to buy replacement filters.

The only type of filter i know of with washable filter that gets tiny particles is a electronic air cleaner, and they're lousy dust filters - need decent pre-filter to get the large particles.

I've never found any free standing air filter that makes any detectable improvement. I tried a small Hunter unit that had a charcoal prefilter and a pleated paper main filter. It was too noisy and the pleated filters were of a proprietary size and medium expensive ($15).

I then tried a larger Honeywell unit that could set farther off in the corner but it also made too much noise and the filters were even more proprietary (big round ones) and even more expensive ($45).

Both are stored on a shelf in the garage now.

I am resigned to the fact that I must dust twice a week as long as we have this house full of carpet that we think we can't live without. I blame the carpet because we have an attached sun room which is ceramic tiled and we keep the french doors closed going to it from the house... it also has the front entrance door to the house so it gets plenty of traffic. However, it can go for months without needing dusting... even then, it's minimal. No HVAC ducts run out there.

I could close the HVAC ducts to my office, remove the carpeting and install a small window unit or split system ductless. There are some quiet ones. It would probably solve my problem... YMMV Maybe you don't have carpeting to blame or your office location can't be divorced from the rest of the house without dire consequences.

Of course cleaning up the whole house air would be nice but that's just a dream, especially with carpeted floors. The odd thing is, the HVAC filter doesn't get a great deal of it and goes 90 days while still looking pretty good. That pretty well tells you that a small quiet desktop filter won't have enough capture to be worth fooling with.

In theory, pressurizing the house with pre cleaned air would be great but that can be expensive up front and the operational and maintenance cost can also be high.

But enough about my problem... I pass it along to let you know that you are not alone in your quest. Others have tried and failed so don't feel like the Lone Ranger.

That's about all (the bad news) I can offer. Well, maybe one more item... if you have any smokers in the house, that also mucks up the air with particulates that are well liked by anything with a static charge.

ps. I suspect the type of carpet may make a difference but until we replace it all, I'm just going to suck it up (pun intended) and bear it.

No advice on fans or filters, but I've noticed that you have started two threads, both with what I would call a preemptive attempt at filtering the type of folks you want to respond. You may find that works a little too well as time goes on.

After rereading your post it sounds like you may be looking for a general purpose fan that sits out in the open. Sounds like you are wanting a HEPA Filter Air Purifier. No way to get small particle filtration without buying filters. I have never seen a washable filter that can capture small dust particles.

Otherwise I think one must be satisfied with frequent whole house vacuuming and changing out of HVAC filters. Along with supplemental vacuum/clean of the computer gear.
