Hello!

First off, I did punch "water heater" into the search bar and didn't find any relevant queries. :(

Anyways, recently I bought my first home. It came with a number of problems. Today I attempted to tackle the water heater.

First we went to Lowes and bought a new electric Whirlpool 28 gallon water heater. I live in a one bed, one bath place with only two people living here, so this small a heater I hope will be alright. It's nearly a direct replacement.

I've replaced it, with much more experienced help of course.

It has been in place, now, with a filled tank and a solid 238 volts at it for a little over two hours. I still have, at best, room temperature water.

Any suggestions? Am I being impatient for its first fill up?

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you!

If you are sure you have the hot and cold connections correctly I would look at the settings on the thermostats on each heating element. If they are set then I would turn off power to the water heater and disconnect one wire from each of the elements and check the resistance of each just to be sure that the elements are good.

Water must be flowing from an open hot water faucet in the house and you should feel the pipes connected to the top of the heater vibrating slightly before you turn on the gas or electricity or burner.
