Not sure of the span yet, just planning a cabin project for the future.

Assuming it would be a 16-20 ft. span, I was wondering if I can butt end the joists over the girder and add a sister joist on each side of the butt joint using plywood or a small length of a joist board. The thinking here is too keep my joists the same distance from the ends thus making nailing down the plywood flooring a bit easier as I can put a chalk line from one side to the other of the platform.

Problem solved, looks like a 24" wood cleat or a metal plates are used.

Check also for any specific nailing pattern on the cleats.
Number and length and spacing of the nails.
