I had to make a few holes in some ceiling joists. 1 two-inch hole per joist. Across 6 or 7 joists in roughly the same spot. I made sure that I was 2 inches above the ceiling drywall when I made the holes. I realize that the joists are weakened but did I just weaken them to a point of concern?

There are 2 bedrooms above. The joists are 9 inches wide.

How thick/deep are the joists? - 2 X 10, 2 X 12?
What is the span of the joists?
Post a picture/s.

The joists are about 2x10 and spans about 9 feet. The hole on each joists is on one side-- about 30inches from one end of the joist.

I'll take measurements tonight and draw it out.

I believe as long as holes are drilled a minimum of 2" from the top and bottom of a spanning lumber and no hole exceeding more than 1/3 the width of the lumber you are fine...
