I hope i have this in the correct catagory.

I have an 8 inch single phase 220 volt jointer. I went to turn it on and the head quivered and tried to run in reverse, very slowly. Its a grizzly about 16 years old and never had a problem with it before. Any input would be appreciated.

Single or three phase? Sounds like possibly the loss of one phase on three phase.

And if it's single phase, most likely either the start capacitor has failed or the start switch is stuck.
