is there anything i can do to make this steps nice without having to rip it all apart. Any thing i can put on top of the steps?

You could just put 2x6 treads on them, they are really deep. I bet they are not comfortable to walk.

wouldn't that make it too slippery to walk? wife suggested to but blue stones on top of it, i don't that would be a smart move?

I would think since any lumber cap can only be nailed at the end, once things start moving around they might actually be worse.
I kinda think they 'are what they are' and as good as they are going to get without a total rip out. Steps like that sort of combine treads and landings and make for strange walking.

I can't tell from the photo, what material is the tread made of?

I would apply a solid color wood stain to the timbers.

I would power wash it.
Take out the railing
Put a 2' wide flower bed on each side running the length.
Install solar powered lights on the corners of the steps and maybe the far side of the flower bed.

I concur with Ron. A good pressure washing will make the steps look much better, both the wood and the concrete inset. Hand rails are pretty useless at this point. Remove and reinstall if you feel the need to.

I agree with Ron a good pressure wash, definitely get rid of the hand rail, and stain if possible. If all else fails just plant lots of flowers! Good luck and shoot us an after photo!
