hi everyone!

just thought i'd share a pic of the cutting board my wife asked Santa for.

end grain Walnut blocks for 'cutting side' wrapped in Jarrah frame with solid walnut slab on back.

photo trickery shows both sides at once!

no penguins were harmed during filming.

Did you have any trouble finding the Jarrah?
I wanted to get some to make a series of telescope tripods with. The only Canadian supplier I could find was 3,000 miles away, and to make matters worse, he was going to have it sent up here from California at some exhorbitant cost.
Ended up having to go without.

i got a bunch of it from a guy that had a couple of recycled building's worth of Jarrah and Ipey (Brazilian Walnut).
i had enough to do this: http://www.diychatroom.com/showthread.php?t=24531&page=4
and he still has enough to do a front porch too, if i wanted to put that much effort out again...... but i don't think so, unless i can put a permanent awning over it.
that back porch IS slippery as all get out, but mostly the dog goes in and out, not us.
do you still need the poles? i might be able to help?

After all the hoohah I went through before, I decided to use some arbutus which I mill myself.
Several years ago, maybe at least 15, I heard about jarrah and sent off to Australia for their brochure. Boy, they put out a beauty! And they show many examples of things made from the wood down under.
I never did get any way back then, but it was always in the back of my mind that one day......
Thanks for the offer of help, but recently I have found that the shipping costs for anything heavier than a letter are getting really extreme. Not only that but both Fedex and UPS have this delightful extra charge they call "brokerage" coming across the border. Funny that Canada Post does not seem to need anything extra for exactly the same thing.
Here's an example of that. Last year I had a package sent up from California on which the shipping charge was $80. Their "brokerage" was an extra $81.
Now if I need something from the US, if they can't send it via the USPS, I don't get it. No "brokerage" using USPS.
Thanks again.
