Hi,
I'm about to tackle our great room, which is a combination of the kitchen, dining and living room, - four walls and a vaulted ceiling. I've done plenty of painting in the past and have always washed the walls and ceilings with TSP, then applied primer, then the paint. I have a few questions for this very high ceiling room.
1. Do I need to TSP? I was thinking just over the cooking area, and maybe over the stove. If I didn't have to do the whole ceiling, that would save my neck and back! If I do need to TSP, does anyone have a better method - I use the TSP substitute, green liquid that I can't recall the name of, apply it with a sponge mop and then wipe it down with a rag that I put over another clean mop.
2. When I read about the proper painting techniques, I never see people cutting in their primer - am I wasting my time? Should I just roller up to the walls (which will be painted as well)
3. How do you know if you need more than one coat of primer. Currently the ceiling is this gold color and the walls are a rusty redish brown color.
4. I anticipate that there's now way I can complete the ceiling all in one day, where is the best place to stop. I was thinking the apex of the ceiling line where the two slopes meet, I think I can feasibly lay down half the ceiling in one day, but maybe I could do the whole thing if I didn't have to cut in.
5. Does anyone know a good paint store in Conifer, CO? I thought a new one opened, but I don't seem to find it when I google.
Thanks - I know it's a lot of questions!
Gayle
