Is there a way to test refrigerator water filter?

1003 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  jimn01
I have a Whirlpool GD25DFXFW01 side by side refrigerator. The water dispenser and ice maker have stopped working. I don't know if the water filter can get clogged enough to cause this. My water filter is a long one that mounts into the grill at the base of the refrigerator. The model number of the filter is 4396508. Is there some way to inspect the filter to see if it is causing the problem? Thanks.

Most refrigerators will work with and without the filter. Try it without the filter and see what it does
I'd start by seeing if your even getting any water to the filter.
If someone used a saddle valve where it connects to the main line it's common to have the valve plug up and leak, there against code in some areas because of the issues.

If you have the model # you can check out repairclinic.com for a list of items that can cause this and the steps to take to figure it out.

The filters to eventually plug up and need to be replaced. If you can't remember the last time it was replaced its time .
