I want to remove one stud from a wall to make a doorway a little wider, but I'm not 100% sure the stud isn't load bearing.
So I'm curious what the opinions here might be, and if you think I should get an engineer to look at it onsight please let me know.
Here is the top of the stud in the attic. The stud I am removing here is actually the second one from the right, the far right one ends inside the cieling right above the existing door frame.
The bottom of the stud ends here on the second floor.
The stud is paralell to all the roof joists. The part that concerns me is seen in the top picture where the stud attaches to the two 2x4s, those 2x4s span the length of the roof and make contact with large 2x8s in 3 or 4 places.
But at the same time the whole thing is paralell to the roof joists, not to mention even if I removed that there's still 3 other 2x4s to carry any load.
