Hi,

I ran a 12-2 feed from the panel with a 20 amp breaker to a light switch in a room in my house. Is it up to code to run a 12-2 wire from the light switch to power an outlet?

Thanks everyone!

Yes you may.

For a 20 amp circuit with 15 amp receptacle you need at least two receptacles altogether on the entire circuit.

I am now confused slightly because Alan said I need at least two receptacles. I only have one receptacle attached to the switch which feeds a fan/light combo via a 12/3. Here's the entire circuit for clairity:

12/2 feed from panel > light switch > one 12/2 to the outlet + one 12/3 to the fan/light combo in the ceiling.

Thanks guys.

A common receptacle is a duplex, which is 2 receptacles, where you can plug 2 things into it. You’re good.
