Been battling with high gas bills since moving it. Finally today I made sure all my gas appliances are off (hot water heater and furnace) went out to the main line and put my ears to the line and I hear a very low hissing. Does that mean I have a leak somewhere?

Probably. Do you smell gas? Does the hiss sound like it is after meter? If so that could account for high bills. Does the meter stop spinning when you turn off all your appliances?
Call the gas company now especially if you smell gas. They will be there instantly. They take leaks very seriously.

Look at the meter and see if any of the dials are moving. They are set in cu.feet so find the smallest one. Put a pencil mark on it and wait 5 mins to see if it moves. The line goes underground and can pickup sounds from other utility lines.

Hissing isn't an indicator of a leak. Meter movement and a gas odor is.
