Fixing some ceiling drywall in my basement and noticed that the drywall was thinner in the ceiling than a wall I took down.

The ceiling drywall measures 7/16", however a quick search on this measurement seems to state that 1/2" drywall's actual measurement is 7/16".

Is 1/2" the drywall I need? Or is there such thing as 7/16" drywall?

Thanks!

Never heard of 7/16th inch drywall.
Back in the good old days, there was 3/8 inch stuff. I'm not sure it is available any more.
Pretty sure it would be special order.

It could be 3/8 being a basement ceiling where they might have wanted to cut the cost. If you have the two different areas where the wall measures 1/2 then this is less.
