Main water line into house is a 3/4" meter and copper pipe. It is reduced to a 1/2" just after it enters the crawlspace and before making its way to the water heater. Should I tap for an irrigation line with a 3/4" pipe before the reduction or tap with a 1/2" pipe after. I am worried that if I tap before then it will screw up the flow to the house.

Tap before the reduction,it won't bother the flow to the house.

Does it matter if the tap is a 3/4" or 1/2"

Sure it makes a difference,you need all the flow you can get for your irrigation.

No he has 3/4" main and 1/2" when it enters the house,that's why i said to tap before reduction.

You definitely need to tap in where it's 3/4", otherwise you won't have nearly enough volume for your sprinkler system. With irrigation even 3/4" is on the small side.

Go back and read it again. Someone messed up and used 1/2 to the heater and for the main runs.
He only has a 3/4 supply to the house.

you would have to have way more zone then you would want to spend money on if you try to use the 1/2" side of the line, 3/4 like has been said is still going to be a pain, what is your water pressure? in the house and off the 3/4 side?

last one i did at the last house i was living at i use http://www.orbitonline.com/ to design it, and then made a list of the parts i needed and any modifications i wanted to keep the price down. then went to the store and got the stuff.
