Centurylink guy came and it was easier than I thought. He ran the the new fiber optic line to my house and put what I'm going to call the "flux capacitor" there. He said that box cost $2000.

From there he grabbed one of my existing cat 5 wires which went to my interior wall where he placed to more boxes. Modem and whatever.

Everything works and installation cost to me......$0

Just under 1 gig download speed and uploads are the same. My son's couldn't believe the upload speeds.

Let me know if anyone wants to see the devices.

Sounds like back when AT&T owned all the Bell operating companies (RBOCs) along with equipment manufacturer Western Electric. The individual states regulated the RBOCs, limiting the return on their investment.

When deregulation separated the RBOCs from "mothership" AT&T, it was found that they had been subject to extremely inflated pricing from Western. By forcing the Bell companies to buy only from Western and then inflating the prices they paid for supplies and "capital" equipment, AT&T effectively bypassed state regulators and got whatever profit they wanted. And they wondered why they were so disliked!
