My basement has a brick and mortar fireplace surround. It was built about 2 inches away from the foundation. It measures 6 feet across. I'm finishing the basement and would like to insulate this area before framing around it. What's the way way to insulate this? So far the options I've come up with is to either stuff fibreglass behind there with a stick or try using spray foam cans and getting in there as much as possible. I've included pictures to help. Any tips would be great!

I should be able to slide this in behind there easily. I suppose I can use some type of adhesive on the back and push it up against the foundation to make it stay there? Either that or double it up to the thickness of the gap as best as possible?
