I've provided two images, one for showing scale. The other to show where my question lies.

I'm having significant cold air infiltration on the right hand side of that picture where the window slides up and down. It has this tube-like, moveable piece which I think guides the window? Not quite sure.

Anyway, the cold air is rising up through this track.

Am I able to put some expanding foam down through this track? I'm afraid it will make it stick completely, as we do use the windows during spring/fall.

Or is there another solution for this? Right now I have a piece of cut cloth on one of the windows where it is real bad. :) We can't replace them at the moment, but this cold air is too much. Thanks.

Try to move that sash from side to side.
There should be very little side to side movement.
If there is the window may not have been shimmed properly
Some have an adjustment screw in the center of the jamb.
