I have a 16x5ft cold room under my porch in the basement. Currently there is an exterior door and a vent hole to the outside. There is 2 5ft and one 16ft exterior foundation wall sections and the ceiling. In the winter anything in there freezes and summer it gets humid. I would like to remove the door, plug the hole, insulate and turn the area into an extension of the basement for storage.

Looking for some assistance in how to insulate it to have no issues with moisture, condensation, etc...


I was going to seal the concrete and then glue 2” Durafoam rigid EPS insulation to the exterior walls and to the ceiling. Sealing all seams and using blue vapour tape on all seams. Right or wrong? Any issues?

Sealing the outside is more important than the inside. The only problem with foam in a living space is it is supposed to be covered with drywall.

That’s not an issue. I’ll strap and drywall later.
