Insulating basement ceilling

800 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  DanCom
I'm finishing my basement and will be putting drop ceilling, witch will be around 4 inch from the bottom of my joist. Now I would like to add insulation in the ceilling only in the bedroom. So that the Kids don't hear us walking upstairs. Is it OK to only insulate parts of the ceilling? Also will it be ok that there will be a gap from the insulation and the drop ceilling?

Thanks

Should be fine to do that.
If it's open adding a layer of 5/8 drywall to the joist would help even more.
Will the batts insulation stay in place in the ceilling, or I will need to put something to hold it in place?
