Insulated ductwork in closed crawlspace

I plan to rerun insulated ductwork from the attic in a coastal mid-Atlantic area to the crawlspace which will be (further) sealed, insulated and conditioned. I will need a new trunk. Will this need to be insulated? In Green Acres fashion, what is wrong with just running the attic trunk right into the conditioned and sealed crawlspace and adjusting the floor registers accordingly.

A major advocate of sealed crawlspaces, and selling of supplies, suggested the ductwork there be insulated.

Once the crawlspace is sealed, its basically conditioned space. I see no issue with making sure that the duct work is sealed for proper distribution, but to insulate it inside a space that should therefore be conditioned is wasted energy in my book.

Do you insulate the duct work in an unfinished basement?
