Has anyone installed engineered wood floors over tile, specifically saltillo tile or have an opinion on this type of installation? The tile is solidly adhered to a sub-floor, and would require some leveling. If this has been done successfully by anyone, what was the procedure?

I haven't selected the wood flooring yet, so I'm not aware of their recommendations. The installer also recommended planing the tile first to get rid of the high places, although, I'm not sure how this is done.

WOW!!! Good luck with that concept.

I assume you realize if the tile stays the wood will have to be glued to install it. Someone should check to see that the adhesive will (in fact) be compatible with the modified substrate. Adhering wood to raw Saltillo or even SLC may be an issue. I don't know for sure but someone should be asking someone before you go ahead with this.

My personal vote is to remove the tile and get that substrate back down to where it should be.:) To keep heaping floor covering atop floor covering is never a good idea.:)
