Behind the drywall I have 2x6 studs. I will be mounting vanity and than a heavy 32" sink. There are four brackets top and bottom.
I haver robitson #14, 3" wood screws I've been given at HD and washers. Should I get hex head screws instead of the robitson screws and use a nut driver? Is the robitson #14, 3" wood screw good enough or would something else be preferred? First I would pre-drill with a small drill bit so I don't split the 2x6 when driving it through. This is the first time doing this so i want to make sure it stays up. I have two kids so I will also install French cleat underneath. Any suggestions/help would be much appreciated.

You should be fine with the screws---However, The lag screws have a higher shear strength---If you feel safer using lags--go for it.

My biggest concern would be the length of the screws and the location of you water lines---

Hitting a water line could REALLY change your day!---Mike---

Didn't the vanity come with installation instructions?
I usually just follow them.
