I need to install inline shutoff valves in 1/2" copper waterline. I have two of them. I have never sweated pipe successfully. I am having trouble locating straight compression valves with both ends for 1/2"ID (5/8"OD). My local plumbing supply says they don't carry any compression
valves. I was shown a Shark Bite Ball Valve but it sure seems a bit bulky. (See pictures below.)

Once the valves are in I can replace that sink. All suggestions appreciated.

A quick search on-line revealed that HD carries what you're looking for. I'm surprised that your local plumbing supply doesn't carry them, I guess that there's not much local demand.

I had refrained from posting my question on this forum until I had gone through all 321 valves on the HD pages several times; until I had gone to HD and found their most knowledgeable plumbing associate; until I had gone to my local plumbing supply house; until I had cleaned up the pipes and taken and edited pictures to post with my question. I tried to do my homework.

Could you please be a little more specific?

Is it important to have a shut off there? You need to turn the water off to install one, so why not just turn it off, replace the faucets and be done with your end goal? If you don't like sweating copper just go with the shark bites. There are a ton of threads here on them, too simple to seem legit but they work just fine.

Yes, and a code requirement in my area although not strictly enforced, ie tub/shower valves.
In your case, I'd kill the house supply and forget the valves

is the hot/cold coming from those lower right pipes..putting the valves there would shut everything to the left of them including the sink if they are the supply lines from the city/cold and HWH

Thanks for asking. No, those 2 pipes actually go to the right out to the clothes washer. Those two pipes have shut off valves at the end.

My code calls for valves only ahead of each water supplied appliance, or a slip joint supply.


Hard piped items like shower valves don't need them.
