I’m currently planning to install swinging doors for 3 closets in our house. I would need your help and expertise because I have one challenge to overcome. During the construction of our house we asked the contractor not to install closet doors. The closet door openings have been drywalled (and steel corners have been installed).
To install the swinging doors I will need to remove the drywall (in the opening) to nail the doors jambs into the side studs (jack studs) and top header.
That being said, if I remove the drywall in the door opening I will also need to remove the steel corners. That will be in nasty job. I was wondering if installing the door jambs against the drywall opening would be a bad idea. I want a quality job but I don’t want to waste time and money by removing the drywall and steel corners for nothing.
What would be the best solution?
Thanks !
