hi there! new here......hoping that someone can help me out. I am looking to install a garage door onto a shop which does not have an exisitng opening. Would I have to install a beam? How much do you think it would cost to take out a wall, install a beam, and install a garage door in the opening?

It definitely needs a header/beam over the doorway. Need a pic or more info to tell exactly what is needed. But why a garage door, for moving large projects in/out?? They tend to be cold/drafty, even when the insulated type are installed. If you are handy, it can be a DIY job. Pick up a book at home stores on framing.

The reason why we are converting a shop into a garage is because we dont have a garage. my hubby's projects consist mainly of automotive projects and we need the space to park our drag cars. we bought our place knowing that it was what we wanted to do. we were storing them at my parents' barn but they know have accepted an offer on their place so we need to put the wheels in motion. just wondering if anyone has done a similar project and how much they think it would cost to take down a wall, add a beam, and install the door.

Going to start making some local calls to some contractors if you want prices.
Pricing is not goin to happen on this site.
What to know how to do it then were willing to work with you.
