I've installed the timer following the diagram; it has constant power and manually works to turn the lights on and off. I wired the second switch with the jumper as shown in the diagram but cannot make the second switch work properly.
Without the jumper in place, the switch works to turn on the lights after 3 or 4 trips. The lights come on and then go off; following two or three trips of the switch the lights stay on. If the lights are turned on at the timer they come on and off manually as expected and the the second switch can turn them off with no issues.
I did wire the jumper into the second switch as shown on the diagram but it disables the switch (tripping won't turn the light on or off). It appears that the jumper is intended to eliminate one of the travelers allowing the time to control the circuit but I don't fully understand the purpose of the jumper. I want to be able to turn the light on and off at the front door but expect that the timer will control the lighting most of the time.
This circuit is for the outside lights with a switch in the garage and by the front door. I wired the timer in the garage leaving the larger on/ off switch in the hall way. Garage is also where the circuit breaker box is located. Any help / advice is appreciated
