I just installed a couple pocket doors and am stumped how do I remove the wood to install the hardware. Do I use a router? Do I go free hand?

This is the type of hardware I'm trying to install.

Pencil some cut lines on the door that represent the area needed to be cut out. Then drill some 1/2" holes at each corner. Use a jig saw to cut the rest of the square out. Don't forget to put some tape down so the jig saw does not scratch the door or the cut does not splinter!

If this is a hollow core door, you can use a hand saw and a utility knife if there are no lock blocks.

oops, was gonna ask, did the lock come with a mounting template? possibly 'built in' to the instructions?
