I finally took the plunge this weekend and tear away my old sliding patio door and install a new French Patio door.

After tearing out the old sliding door, I found that my initial measure was a bit off for the rough opening. Now that I installed the new doors, there is a gap of over 1 inch between the prehung door frame and header on the top.

Does anyone have any good advice on how I should proceed to fill this gap? Should I cut up a piece of wood and put it between frame and the header, also should it be flush on the exterior or interior?

Add a piece of 1X and just rip it so it's the same width as the jam.
It needs to be flush with the outside, the inside gets jamb extentions.
Since it's plater you really shold have ordered a door with wider jambs but no big deal.

Thanks for the reply, when you say flush on the outside, did you mean flush with the exterior wall (stucco) or frame?

Depends if you r going to stucco to the door(than u would leave enough room to add material for the stucco and the stucco itself do u would go to frame) if u r going to trim over stucco than flush with stucco so your trim will go right over it
