Hello,
Currently in process of running power from 200a main in house to detached garage. I want 100amp rating at the garage. I understand I can use #3 THHN/THWN wires in conduit buried from house to garage.
Problem: Given the wide concrete driveway I cannot bury directly from the main. I have to run the cables from main panel inside the attached garage, up, across 20 feet of unfinished 2x6 wall above a garage door, then down and out the wall (the ceiling in my attached garage is 16 feet) before going underground in conduit to new garage.
Q1. Is there an option for running another type of cable off a 100amp breaker from the main panel to the exit junction point going outside? Was hoping to drill the 2x6's and feed the inside cable thru those and tie into the THHN wire at exit point.
Q2. If no, and I use the #3 THHN wire for the inside run, Im assuming it has to be in conduit, but can I run the conduit across (on top)of the unfinished the 2x6 wall studs?
Q3. If no, final option is can I run conduit (1.5") up all 16 feet and thru ceiling, then lay the conduit across the rafters and then down the other side to the exit junction. Any rules about running conduit across rafters?
Any input is appreciated. Thanks!
