Illinois Roofing License Requirement

It is my understanding that contractors generally do not have to be licensed in Illinois. An exception is for roofers who must be licensed.

If a contractor bids on a job on a commercial building that includes some roofing repair may a contractor who does not have a license do that job?

What else should I also be asking here?

Commercial building roofers need to have a commercial unlimited license to be legal.

Go to the IDFPR website and read the regulations and Act for the fine tooth details.

A simple patch repair may fall under the radar. If the building owners own staff is doing the repair, they are exempted from being licensed.
