Generally growing in the wetter parts of the property is also an indication it's not only a shade tolerant grass but prefers shade. As much as we would like it to cover all areas, sometimes this can be problematic in sunny areas.

The appearance resembles a non native grass called Monkey grass, but already mentioned, consult you extension service.

Hard to tell how long it is from picture. Looks like it could be a sedge (weed plant).
Dig down and try to find the roots and see if there is a little bulb (about dime-nickel diameter) on them. If so, a sedge. You don't want this in your lawn in my opinion.
