Hello,
I have a "small" problem. We are looking to replace our washer dryer, but are limited by closet space. The closet is plenty wide 65 1/2" wide, but it is only 30 1/4" deep from inside of the bi fold doors to the wall. Front loads are pretty much out of the question as they are usually 32" plus deep. I have moved the doors out to the front edge of the jamb to get the 30 1/4" depth. The back wall is adjacent to a bathroom, so I can't move the wall back. I have thought of extending the jamb out an inch to get 31 1/4" depth, which I can find a dryer to fit. I have also thought of using a side exhaust for the gas dryer to allow the dryer to fit all the way against the back wall. Any ideas??

I have thought about that also, but you don't see many top load dryers. The inside dimensions of the closet are 65 1/2" wide and 30 1/4" deep to inside of doors. My current washer is 27" wide and dryer is 29" wide...tight fit! Thanks for the great ideas...

Take a picture of the area would be helpful.

Just throwing some ideas and seeing what might stick

  • If there's enough room, you could build out the closet opening by an inch or two to allow the doors to fit if you need doors.

  • Or keep them front facing and build in a nice louvered "built-in" for them. It may stick out slightly, but if you want front load, that seems to be the only option then.

  • How wide are the washer and dryer? You could stack them and have them sideways. Might be a tight fit, but potentially doable?
