I need some help on what to do with my tv, it's to large to fit in the hole. Right now it's just sitting on our old stand until we can figure something out. We're renting do can't really do a whole lot. Thanks!
Is it a flat screen style TV or what?

What hole? In a wall, or in a cabinet (like an entertainment center), or what.

A picture or three would be helpful.

If I'm picturing this correctly, there's recess in your wall for a TV? You can get an articulating mount that extends out and mount the tv to it so that it sits in front of the recess. Hope that makes sense. You could always just frame out a temporary wall with 2x4's to mount the tv to.

When my old console TV died, I just covered it with a large knitted throw.

Then used it as a stand for the new Big Screen Flat Panel system that replaced it.

This gives a good flat surface to sit the NEW one on, as well as all the Cable boxes and equipment.

So I would imagine any old table/ dresser/ armoire/ chest, etc will work great to use as a stand for your TV.

Except that in my rentals the lease prohibits any modifications to utilities, mechanicals, structure, walls, flooring or floor covering . The tenant can paint with approved colors (aka. Black or super statured colors are a no-no). Perhaps in some rentals the tenant might be permitted to do this. I guess I don't understand why a simple freestanding Furniture won't work?

I'm betting it some kind of wall unit with an opening large enough
to fit an older tv like a 32 or 36 inch tv?
Since you're renting and can't alter the opening, youll have to think of
something else that you can do...
If this is the case put the new flat screen tv in front of the existing
hole.
If you post some pics, perhaps we can come up with another plan.
Where there is a will, there is a way!
