I have enough recessed lights in my basement that I'm starting to wonder if I should use drywall or just Swiss cheese on the ceilings....

Of course, I'm worried about containing noise downstairs. The cans are all IC rated, but does that mean just to the sides? Or could I get away with fiberglass or rockwool above the lights too?

The whole thing can be covered with insulation.
