I have a 16' x 20' shop that has some 12" Masonite siding panels that need to be replaced. Many are still in good shape, so I'd like to just replace the bad ones. I'd like to stay away from cement fiber boards. Is there something else? Searching online, I'm not finding anything that's 12" wide that's a suitable replacement.

Any suggestions ?

Was once doing a demo / remodel on a house that had Masonite siding shingles.

A homeowner from a few blocks away came by and offered to buy all the ones that I could salvage in good shape for a high price.

Did I ever make a profit on him?

You might find a remodel project in your community that is throwing these away, and get enough to repair your place.

Just trying to get the old pieces out without damaging the next piece to do a spot repair would be a nightmare.
Masonite had a huge class action lawsuit long ago because of all the failures.

My frequent suggestion when trying to match a difficult or discontinued siding is to update one side of your home. You can choose a side that is only visible from one direction so it would be difficult to tell if it is different from the rest. But carefully remove that siding from that area for the repairs you need and save the extra. Then install a new siding of your choice.
