Hello, this is my first post and I have very little DIY experience. I have mold growing near my ceiling AC supply vents on the insulation and surrounding wall. I removed all the insulation around the vent and used a borax solution to remove the mold off the ceiling. My question is do I even need insulation and if so what type should I use? I don't to replace the insulation and have mold return. :vs_whistle:

Improper insulating and possibly leaking duct work in that area allowing warmer air to reach the cooler surfaces in the cooling months = condensation moisture. That's probably an accumulation of years of defective workmanship and been accumulating mold ever since the house was built.

Is this duct for ac only, thus not in use for heat?

Is the drywall falling apart from being so wet? Is the mold causing health issues or smells?. If not, I would just clean it up and let it go.

Is that mold or just dirt? If it was that much moisture, the register would be rusty.
