HVAC fan motor 3 to 5 wires

My HVAC fan motor went out the other day. I know this because the condenser still ran, and I tested the capacitor. Also, the fan was difficult to turn, unlike my other systems fan which easily spun. My motor is a Rheem which has three wires a black, brown and orange. The new motor has five wires. The diagram is below for going from three to five wire system.

Can some explain the diagram to me in regular terminology.

Purple goes to one side of the cap.
Orange goes to the other side of the cap, and to the incoming power.
Yellow and brown connect to each other.
Black goes to the other incoming power.
