We recently started having this humming/vibrating noise. We thought it was the sump pum coming on but finally traced it to wiring in the ceiling that leads to a light fixture (in the hallway).

It's not like the sound is always there non stop.
It's more like it will hum/vibrate for a few seconds, then stop, then after 20 seconds, it will start again, then stop. It just goes through this cycle.

There are no new fixtures or anything in the house.

I turned off the breaker for now until it is fixed

Can anyone help me identify what the issue may be?

Is it a fluorescent light?

Do you have an attic fan? Sounds like a stuck motor going on and off of overload cut off.
